ITM – Teens and Adolescents

Oh, The Glory of Youth!

To work with youth, you must love them deeply, and somehow, this love… this loyalty, has to manifest itself completely in your interaction with them.  Adolescents are like horses in a way (terrible analogy), they are very perceptive, not necessarily about what you say or don’t say, but about how they feel around you.  Adolescents may not necessarily be looking for some intellectual conversion to your ideals or philosophy… they are looking to be emotionally moved!  Honestly, few therapist have the ability, or the willingness to long-suffer through a teenager’s often irrational and emotive road.  In this critical search, please consider me… I have a gift with youth.  Because it is sincere, even those youth who present in their protective armour, partly because they are being forced to come, leave my office with a personal and independent commitment to come back.  I can’t tell you exactly how it happens, because it’s not a skill or tool that i fabricate during the session… it’s an experience that they feel and enjoy.  This softening then becomes the preparatory ground for future work.  Remembering also that this first therapeutic experience, becomes the base for whether they will seek help in the future or not.

In addition to the natural interpersonal  connection that is easily formed between me and adolescents, the fact that I use an “adventure based therapy” approach, makes the experience not just exciting, but very impactful.  I guarantee that they will be moved!  The use of Rock Climbing & bouldering is impressively effective not only in the creation of a therapeutic relationship of trust, but in the creation of new healthy hobbies that they can take with them beyond the therapy.  Some of the benefits of Rock Climbing as a vehicle to treatment are:

  • True principles + unforgettable experience = unforgettable principles
  • The opportunity to experiment with ideas and values in an experiential (not just theoretical) way
  • Immediate trust
  • Example of an incredibly positive, supportive, and vulnerable relationship
  • Increased confidence and self esteem
  • Hobby or activity that is extreme and very unique
  • Exercise (never hurt anyone)
  • The magical outdoors.  there is magic in those rocks.

No other therapist in town offers these impressive benefits!  Text or Call Now, space is very limited!
